What the 2012-2013 LA Lakers Season Taught Me About Blogging

The Los Angeles Lakers, that famed West Coast NBA team from California, revamped their 2012-2013 team with some very big names. This was to present themselves as a stronger contender for this season’s championship.

The team’s development thus far reflects some important tenets of blogging, such as:

Setbacks Happen

The LA Lakers acquired a couple of great players to bolster an already decent line-up before the season began. With NBA star play-maker Steve Nash and towering center Dwight Howard in the team to complement the current line-up of strong players, hopes were high for the basketball team. However, Nash has been sidelined with early season injuries; the team has also been struggling to gel together, if the start-of-season losing streak tells anything. The team has, however, bounced back a bit, at second place in their division as of writing.

Takeaway: You may not blog as often as you’d like or you may be struggling to gain readers. This only means you must make the most out of what [time] you have and produce quality ‘plays’ (articles) whenever you can.

Switch Tactics

The losing streak at the beginning of a season full of promise worried many fans and, unfortunately, the management too. Head Coach Mike Brown always had big shoes to fill, and he was promptly fired (“released” was the choice of words) for failing to deliver wins. Instead of waiting it out, the management took it upon themselves to reverse the back-slide, and replaced their head coach. I’m in no way saying that Mike Brown was a ‘bad coach’; perhaps the team simply felt they needed a different coaching mind.

Takeaway: Perhaps you’re concentrating too much on ‘old mindsets’, such as too much search engine optimization (SEO) tactics and not enough on content marketing. ‘Fire’ your current strategy, and ‘hire’ a new one and focus on pumping out well-written content for best results.

Stick to Strengths

Whatever happens to the Lakers this season, one thing’s for sure: the team will (in the near future, at least) always lean heavily on superstar Kobe Bryant, and to a certain extent, mainstay big man Pau Gasol. Win or lose, the team’s strong players are more often than not consistent in their game. Also, even with the new acquisitions for the franchise, no one really doubts where the strengths of the team lie, in terms of dependable players, at least.

Takeaway: Why do expertly-written niche blogs work? Simple: a pro blogger is knowledgeable and thus credible in his/her chosen topics. This blogger knows how to focus on his/her strong areas – where s/he is going to be most useful, helpful, and entertaining – instead of trying to push weak content.
